The First Ibero-American Meeting on Rhetoric will be held in May the 5th-7th, 2014, at the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto.
The Meeting is organized by SPR (Sociedade Portuguesa de Retórica), along with "Sociedade Brasileira de Retórica", "Asociación Latinoamericana de Retórica", "Centro de Estudos Clássicos e Humanísticos da Universidade de Coimbra", "Instituto de Filosofia da Universidade do Porto", "Centro de Literaturas e Culturas Lusófonas da Universidade de Lisboa" and "Associação Portuguesa de Linguística". Under the general topic «Rhetoric and Politics», the following items will be adressed:
1. Language and ideology;
2. Democracy and parliamentarism;
3. Power and counter-power speech;
4. nationalisms, revolution and propaganda;
5. colonialism, anti-colonialism and post-colonialism;
6. evangelization and meeting of cultures.
Proposals must be submitted to sociedadeportuguesaderetorica@gmail.com until October 31th. The following information is due: Name, institution, Email address, Proposal title, Abstract (max. 300 words), item (1 to 6, see above). Notification of proposals acceptance will be emailed until November 30th. A 100 euro registration is due until February 1st, 2014; 120 euro after this deadline.
All lecturers must be registered.
