AAR 2014 Projects

AAR 2014 Projects

The African Association for Rhetoric (AAR) is contemplating two other parallel projects in addition to the forthcoming conference.

1. African Orators Series: Following the death of the eminent statesman, Nelson Mandela, and the different strands of discussions that emerged around his values, philosophy and rhetoric, it behoves the Association to consider his works as an orator. But not only Nelson Mandela, we would like to examine the works of other African leaders whose work merit in-depth rhetorical treatment. This African Orators Series will be a series of volumes on known African Orators and their works.

The first will be an edited Book on Mandela’s Rhetoric. By all account, Mandela was an orator of note, and his rhetoric deserves scholarly attention. This Volume is expected to be a critical analysis of Mandela’s Speeches from the liberation struggle years up until his post presidency orations vis-à-vis, intersection of rhetoric with politics, reconciliation, law, peace and conflict resolution, leadership, transformation, international relations and ethics. Submissions should draw out lessons from Mandela’s engagements particularly with audiences. Deadlines for submission will be March 30, 2014. Should you like to contribute to this important volume, kindly email me an abstract by January 15, 2014 @ ige.segun@gmail.com or aar.southafrica@gmail.com. In your response please indicate the project by writing in the title: Mandela’s Rhetoric. A team of 4 editors will be constituted for this project. Kindly contact me should you have any enquiries as well.

2. Special Edition of AJR: The Second project is a special edition of the journal to be entitled: Speechwriting, Speechmaking and Professional Speaking. This publication has been necessitated following the realisation of the impact that the activities of professional speakers are beginning to have on society and the industry. We believe that we should start contributing to knowledge in this area through scientific research. Professor Kgomotso Michelangelo Masemola (UNISA) has agreed to Guest edit this volume. Deadlines for submission will be April 30, 2014. Submissions should highlight different aspects of professional speaking. Kindly send your submissions to aar.southafrica@gmail.com

3. Conference Venue: I should also like to remind scholars who are interested in the forthcoming conference to send in their abstracts.
