ISHR 2022 and 2024; the winner of the Rhetorica Prize

Dear ISHR members:

After a delay of a year and a week, ISHR enjoyed a wonderful conference in Nijmegen, thanks to the leadership of Past President Marc van der Poel, Bé Breij, and their team of student assistants, and of course the participants, both in Nijmegen and from around the world by Zoom.  It will be a hard act to follow, but planning is already underway for our meetings in Vancouver in 2024, and in Copenhagen in 2025.  Look for an announcement about the conference theme and Call for Papers for the Vancouver meeting soon.

At the Business Meeting, the winner of the Rhetorica Prize was announced. The 2019-2021 prize was awarded to Dr. Isabella Walser-Bürgler, Institut für Klassische Philologie und Neulateinische Studien, Innsbruck, for her  article “Staging Oratory in Renaissance Germany: The Delivery of Andrés Lagunas’s Europa Heautentimorumene (1543),” in Rhetorica 38.1. Dr. Walser-Bürgler was able to accept the prize and say a few words over Zoom.

Cordially,

David Mirhady, ISHR President
