RSA Student Chapter Special Event Awards
RSA annually offers $3000 to Special Event Awards. Candidates for this award must be Student Chapters with RSA and have an event planned for the spring semester.
RSA annually offers $3000 to Special Event Awards. Candidates for this award must be Student Chapters with RSA and have an event planned for the spring semester. Awards were determined by criteria such as: the quality of the application (clear planning/preparation), the event’s interdisciplinary focus – inclusion of other departments, institutions, etc. – as well as an emphasis on graduate students. This year the RSA student representatives, Katherine Lind and Sarah Frank, along with faculty board member Jenny Rice reviewed the applications and selected the following winners:
Arizona State University plans to host Dr. Brian Ott (University of Colorado – Denver) for a public lecture, an informal meet and greet, and an interdisciplinary colloquium open to students in both Communication Studies and English Rhetoric. Dr. Ott’s lecture will be based on his research and is expected to fit ASU’s Institute for Humanities Research 2014-2015 theme “Affect and Reason.”
Northwestern University will be hosting the 2015 Midwest Winter Workshop (MWW), an annual student-organized interdisciplinary workshop for rhetoric scholars from the Midwest. The keynote address this year will be delivered by Dr. Kirt Wilson (Penn State University).
Penn State University and the Arnold-Ebbitt Interdisciplinary Rhetoricians (AEIR) will be hosting their annual event, Camp Rhetoric, a workshop opportunity for graduate students from programs in Communication Studies and English Rhetoric programs at five regional institutions. Dr. Kyle Jensen (University of North Texas) will deliver the keynote address.
University of Iowa and the Bruce Gronbeck Rhetoric Society will mark their inaugural event by hosting Dr. Erin Rand (Syracuse University). Dr. Rand with deliver a public lecture entitled “Reclaiming Queer: Activist and Academic Rhetorics of Resistance” and participate in an interview (that will be available online) as well as participate in a graduate seminar and attend several informal meet and greets with graduate students.
University of Nevada, Reno, Rhetoric@Reno chapter, have planned a public lecture by Dr. Susan Jarratt that will be open to all university faculty and students as well as available by podcast. Dr. Jarratt will additionally guest lecture in the Classical Rhetoric graduate seminar and attend a brown bag luncheon for graduate students.
