RSA Members Urged to Apply for ACLS Fellowships

Last month, Jerry Hauser and I attended the annual meeting of the American Council of Learned Societies, where the winners of ACLS fellowships were announced.  For the first time (to our knowledge), a member of RSA was a recipient:  KJ Rawson, Associate Professor of English at the College of the Holy Cross.  Not only that, but he was one of three fellows selected to present his work to the assembled delegates and executive officers.

I mention this good news to give added credibility to the suggestion that, if your work fits within the scope of the fellowships, that you continue applying in the 2019-20 Fellowship and Grant Competition. You will find the deadlines for the various fellowship and grant competitions here.  As you will see, more information about each will be posted on the ACLS website some time in July.  The first of the fellowships listed, “ACLS Fellowships,” is the core element of the program.  There will be 81 of these, divided among Assistant, Associate, and full Professors.

Bringing these fellowships to the attention of our members is one of the benefits of RSA’s membership in ACLS.  I urge you to take full advantage!  If you have questions, let me know and I will either answer them or direct you to someone who can.

Sincerely,

David Zarefsky
RSA Delegate to ACLS
