ISHR Feburary Updates

Greetings !

A lot has been happening with ISHR.  I need to bring you up to date.

• First, in case you haven’t heard, I regret to announce the passing of our Immediate Past President Marc van der Poel December 18^th. Marc was a dear friend to many, a past editor of Rhetorica, and a profound expert in many areas of the history of rhetoric and classics.  His colleagues at Nijmegen have written a beautiful tribute to him, and I hope that our own tribute will appear in Rhetorica
• The Call for Papers for the 2024 meeting in Vancouver appears now on the ISHR website: Continuity and Change in the History of Rhetoric. Please start giving thought to your paper proposals.  It will be great to take advantage of our international character and get participation, especially in panels, from many different countries.
• ISHR’s journal, Rhetorica. Editor Robert Gaines is working closely with Johns Hopkins University Press, the new publisher of Rhetorica, to showcase and promote the journal and its authors. Before the inaugural issue appears, you may want to bookmark the new website.
• Before COVID-19, it had been ISHR’s practice to offer modest subventions of small, local events. Very soon, the Society will resume that practice, extending it to include digital and hybrid events. If you are interested, please be in touch.
• Direct announcements about funding opportunities. Every year, ISHR awards research fellowships to early-career members (see here).
• Access to the digital Loeb Classical Library. We are getting the details in place, and not too long from now members will be able to take advantage of a one-year trial with the digital Loeb Classical Library through the Member portion of the ISHR website. Details soon.
