Symposium on the History of Rhetoric: a Tribute to Marc van der Poel (1957-2022)

Dear colleagues,

On 18 December 2022, Marc van der Poel, Professor of Latin Language and Literature at the Radbuod University Nijmegen, passed away at age 65. His research on the history of rhetoric, from Cicero to Lipsius, Ramus and Agricola, was groundbreaking and influential. Marc van der Poel served as editor-in-chief of the journal Rhetorica (2011-2018), and as president of the International Society for the History of Rhetoric (2019-2022). To honor him, the OIKOS research group Ancient Rhetoric and Aesthetics will organize a symposium on Friday, January 10th, 2025. The program is as follows:
