ISHR announces the appointment of Dr. Michele Kennerly as editor-elect of ISHR’s journal, Rhetorica

ISHR announces the appointment of Dr. Michele Kennerly as editor-elect of ISHR’s journal, Rhetorica. She will assume the editorship on 1 January 2026. Kennerly is Associate Professor of Communication Arts and Sciences and of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies at The Pennsylvania State University in the USA.

She is no doubt familiar to members for her varied services to ISHR, including coordinating its preconference before the Rhetoric Society of America (2018-2024), chairing the program committee of the Vancouver ISHR meeting (2023-2024), and organizing the Society’s records as Secretary General (2020-2025).

Kennerly’s editorial work includes having edited or co-edited three books, serving on the Advisory Board for the Brill book series International Studies in the History of Rhetoric, and co-founding and co-editing the University of Alabama Press book series Rhetoric + Digitality. Her editorial acumen also has been developed through active service as a reviewer for no fewer than ten scholarly journals.

ISHR extends its gratitude to Professor Robert Gaines for the mix of elegance and doggedness he has displayed during his editorship. His editorial correspondence offers a model of the form in a time of auto-templates, and his determination to improve the uptake and impact of the journal has yielded success across several metrics. Kudos! Many thanks as well to the Associate Editors of Rhetorica—Manfred Kraus, Cristina Pepe, María Violeta Pérez Custodio, and Caroline Petit—for their continued service.

Until further notice, new manuscripts can be sent directly to Dr. Kennerly.

Cordially,

Hanne Roer,President of ISHR
